PRV Engineering’s significant investment in a new plating facility in 2013 has led to a firmer control over prices and lead times.

One of the fastest growing high precision engineering machining specialists in Europe, PRV have been trading for over 27 years. Managing director Simon Jones believes the company’s new plating facility will have a vital part to play in the future of its Busbar business.

He said; ”Our order book continues to grow and the stabilisation of our Busbar business, via the investment in our new plating facility, helps to convince our loyal clients that we are here for the long term.

“Because we are in the high voltage power industry and a lot of our products are Busbars, they either require tin-plating or silver plating for added conductivity. In the industry we find it increasingly difficult to get the service done in an adequate time and at an adequate price.

Silver plating is a practice that is done for a variety of reasons, on both individual and commercial levels. Companies will sometimes add silver to other metals simply to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the item. It is also often used as a way of increasing the conductivity of another metal, particularly in electronic devices.

New Plating Facility for Silver and Tin Plating

Here at PRV Engineering, we pride ourselves in the fact that all of the high precision capabilities we offer our clients take place and are controlled in-house. The new plating facility that we have invested in is another demonstration of our determination to maintain this policy, and in the process, to ensure the high quality of the finished products that we supply our clientele.

Deep hole drilling is beneficial across several applications and requires specialist equipment to maintain the straightness and tolerances. Oil and gas exploration equipment, armaments, aerospace equipment and engines are amongst the common applications for deep hole drilling and machining processes, and in each of these industries hole qualities are necessary for high-performance end products, such as landing gear that easily retracts. It’s a given that production requires deep hole drilling that is reliable, but accurate and time-efficient.

Investment is the key to future success; so says Simon Jones, CEO of PRV Engineering, and after all, he should know. PRV Engineering are one of the fastest growing and most successful high precision engineering service providers in the UK. They owe it all to the fact that they are prepared to invest in their own future. In the same way that the government’s education policy was coined as being “education, education, education”, PRV’s philosophy would be coined as “investment, investment, investment!

Staying at the Cutting Edge

The engineering sector is one of the fastest growing technical sectors in the economy. Recent advances in CAD/CAM, and new breakthroughs in programmable software packages are opening new pathways all the time. It’s vitally important that if an engineering company wishes to stay at the cutting edge of its industry, it understands that investment is the key. It must have the latest plant and machinery otherwise it will lose its competitive edge.

The art of engineering has now reached the stage where it can produce engineered art. A new Powermill CAM software program is being used in the film industry, together with a 5 axis router, by film set maker Golden Era Productions. They use it to replicate works of art for film set props. It enables complex works of sculpture like Rodin’s “The Thinker” and “The Kiss” to be recreated in all their glorious detail – with one difference of course.

Rodin may be turning in his Grave

Whereas Monsieur Rodin would have taken many months to have completed one of his stunning works of sculpture, the latest application of the art of engineering can do it in hours. It’s surely enough to be making him turn in his grave.

Secret Behind Continued Success Revealed by PRV Engineering

The secret behind continued success, no matter what the subject matter, is staying ahead of the game. It’s the difference between being mediocre, and being a leader. It’s also what keeps PRV Engineering at the top of the tree as one of Europe’s top high precision machining and engineering service providers.

Be Proactive not Reactive

But the secret behind continued success is not just keeping up with the latest developments; it’s all about being proactive. The majority of businesses tend to be reactive. When a new demand becomes evident, they respond by adding their services to other suppliers also adding theirs. But forward thinking companies like PRV Engineering, use their proactive ability not simply to respond to demand, but to actually create that demand in the first place. How do they do that you may ask? – And the answer is, through their policy of Kaizen.
