HS2 Network – Could it Reduce Existing Services?

PRV Engineering is one of the UK’s leading high precision engineering machining contractors and has a long association with the country’s railway network. Any news stories or topics involving the rail industry are, of course, of close interest.

Quicker trains, shorter journeys. It sounds ideal. Or does it? Plans to introduce 225mph trains to Birmingham from 2026 is in danger of resulting in drastic cuts elsewhere according to Virgin Trains.

Government plans for high speed rail means that high speed trains come off the new line north of Birmingham and use the existing track to continue their journey to north west England and Scotland.

However, the fear is every bit as genuine as the plans are ambitious. Virgin Trains believe the plan will not only worsen congestion on an already crowded line, but will lead to existing services in the area being withdrawn to create room for the new high speed trains in the HS2 network.

£1.25 Million Expansion at PRV Engineering

A £1.25 Million expansion at PRV Engineering and an upgrade project has just been completed at its site in New Inn, Pontypool, South Wales.

The addition of an 8000 sq ft building to its already 28000 sq ft facility, and the addition of a 10 Tonne overhead crane capacity means that PRV have set themselves up to re-enter the fabrication and construction markets. Markets that it retracted from some years ago to concentrate on developing its internal Engineering and Fabrication Services.

PRV have recently had their factory extended. But rather than waiting for someone else to provide the new steelwork frame and concreting, they took the bull by the horns and did it themselves. Drawings and specifications were provided by fully qualified architects, and PRV poured the concrete, and manufactured and erected the steelwork, all to specification. “It gives you more control over the process, including the timing”, said Simon, “and you know what they say? – If you want something doing right – do it yourself”!
